Since I’m starting residency in the next few months (!!!), I wanted to try out a new white coat for the wards. The Neela Lab Coat from Jaanuu is their signature lab coat inspired by co-founder Dr. Neela, and “blends sleek tailoring with a polished finish.”
Disclaimer: The following is my honest review. I did receive a free coat to try out, but I did not get paid to endorse it.
My first impression is that it looks very elegant and sophisticated. Starting from the top, it has a stiff notched collar, fitted shoulders, and long narrow sleeves with clear plastic buttons at the end. The fitted waistline tapers in and then slopes into a straight hemline, giving you a very flattering hourglass silhouette. A row of clear plastic buttons adorns the front.
There are seven roomy pockets so storage shouldn’t be an issue: one welt pocket on the left chest (for pens, ID badge clip), two more welt pockets in the front, underneath which are two giant patch pockets for essentials. Two more patch pockets are located inside the jacket. The patch pockets have sharp clean lines and lie flush against the jacket.
The coat feels and looks luxurious. Their trademark fabric feels durable and well-constructed. It claims to be antimicrobial, wrinkle-free, liquid repellent, and moisture wicking. It’s cool and sleek to the touch, but I did have to steam it after rolling it up in a suitcase. I’d imagine it’d stay relatively wrinkle-free if I were to just toss it in a heap.
The coat runs small (especially at the hips) so I’d probably size up for a more relaxed fit. It felt a little snug when I buttoned up the front. It wears like a light trench so I would probably not wear bulky clothing underneath. The center back vent allows for ease of movement of your legs. The coat is 34.5″ and hits above-the-knee for petite individuals (I’m 5’3″). I’m normally a size 0/2 and am currently wearing XS.
I absolutely love how sophisticated and sleek this coat looks. The hourglass silhouette would be flattering for any figure. It’s a splurge but it’s a MAJOR upgrade from the boxy hospital-issued white coats.
It currently retails at $149, but if you sign up on their website, you’ll get 20% off. And right now you can save 15% with the code NEW15.
